Kobo Jokan A modern lifestyle shop, cafe, and open workshop dedicated to Yamanaka Shikki (lacquerware), located in Yamanaka Onsen, Ishikawa Prefecture. Run by Morita Shikki, a traditional lacquerware manufacturer founded in 1909, this facility allows visitors to experience Japanese craft through all five senses.
Live Artisan Workshop The shop features a glass-walled studio.You can watch master artisans demonstrate Kiji-hiki (woodturning on a lathe).This precise woodturning technique is the defining characteristic of Yamanaka Shikki.

Please meet directly at the activity location, where your English-speaking guide will be waiting for you. Access Information to Kobo Jokan： ※15 minutes by taxi from JR Kaga Onsen Station (Shinkansen) ※ It is a very short 3 to 5-minute drive from most ryokans (Japanese inns) and hotels in the Yamashiro Onsen and Yamanaka Onsen areas. ※By Taxi: Please show the Japanese address below to your taxi driver. Important Note on Shipping: It takes about 2 weeks for the lacquer to dry. Your chopsticks will be shipped internationally at a later date. (Shipping fees must be paid on-site.)
Please Note: As we use natural lacquer (Urushi), there is a risk of skin irritation or allergic reactions. Please be aware that the workshop cannot be held responsible for any skin rashes or irritation that may occur.
