Enjoy cycling for the Seto Inland Sea Islands along Shimanami Kaido and ferry with English speaking guide! You can enjoy the beautiful scenery that are registered as national park, the Seto Inland Sea and the islands, and the beauty of the Islands from the Shimanami Cycling Road!
The Shimanami Kaido starts in Onomichi and connects six islands to Imabari. This tour covers the first 3 islands—Mukaishima, Innoshima, and Ikuchijima (~26 km). The well-maintained bicycle path offers mild bridge ramps designed for smooth riding.
Opened in 1999, the modern bridges provide scenic views of the Seto Inland Sea. With warm winters and sunny days, the region is perfect for outdoor activities. The islands are famous for citrus fruits and the historic Murakami Suigun—naval guardians who guided ships safely through complex tides rather than plunder them.
Mukaishima A quick 5-minute ferry ride (~300m) from Onomichi Station takes you to Mukaishima. With a 28km coastline, this peaceful island retains a nostalgic, retro atmosphere. Ferries run regularly every 12 minutes without a fixed timetable.
Innoshima Historically a stronghold for the Murakami Suigun, this island later flourished through shipbuilding and salt production.
Oyama Shrine Founded in 773, it is the oldest shrine on Innoshima. Historically revered as the guardian shrine of the Murakami Suigun naval clan, in recent years it has also become famous as a shrine dedicated to bicycles and ears.
Ikuchijima Island Known for its warm climate and high-quality lemons, Ikuchijima also acts as an open-air museum. Unique art sculptures are installed across the entire island for visitors to discover.
Kosanji Temple Located on Ikuchijima Island, this photogenic temple features grand, unique white architecture and a vibrant garden filled with beautiful seasonal flowers.
