Kamishichiken, the oldest of Kyoto's five kagai - Geiko (Geisha) & Maiko districts, heralds the arrival of spring with its annual dance performances. It is said that spring in Kyoto begins with the dances of the Geiko (Geisha) and Maiko of Kamishichiken. The performances feature not only esteemed traditional dance but also large-scale dance dramas that weave contemporary trends and humor, celebrating spring in all its grandeur. "Kitano Odori" has been performed by Geiko(Geisha) and Maiko for over 70 years! The performance is only offered 14 days from 3/20/2025 to 4/2/2025! Here, one can savor matcha (green tea) and sweets while enjoying a tea ceremony performed by Geiko(Geisha) and Maiko, and take home a small ceramic plate as a cherished memento. Enjoy beautifully choreographed dance performance and the atmosphere!
End the tour with strolling around the Kinkakuji Temple for magnificent view. During the renovation in 1986-1987, it took 200,000 gold leaves which weighted 20 kg (44 pounds) to replace the 2nd and 3rd floor.
This walking tour includes a Subway & Bus 1-Day Pass. You may use it after the tour for more sightseeing or shopping (till end of the day). All of the transportation will be by walking or using a public transportation. Please wear comfortable shoes and come prepared for any weather.
KTIC Friends is a staff from Kyoto Tourist Information Center. The English-speaking staff will accompany from Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo. This is a Non-Guided walking tour. This tour does not include lunch.
