Tsugizakura Oji Famous for its grove of magnificent, ancient cedar trees. These giants are known as the "One-Sided Cedars of Nonaka" because all their branches uniquely face southeast toward the sacred mountains.

Fushigami Oji The name "Fushigami" (prostrating in prayer) comes from ancient pilgrims who would drop to their knees in awe here, as it offers the very first glimpse of Kumano Hongu Taisha. Even today, you can see the original shrine site, Oyunobara, nestled between the distant mountains.

After a long and arduous journey, pilgrims arrive at this grand head shrine, which exudes a deeply spiritual, ancient atmosphere unlike any other. Oyunobara The original site of Kumano Hongu Taisha before it was relocated. Today, this vast, sacred clearing is home to Japan’s tallest Otorii (Grand Gate), standing at a breathtaking 33 meters high.
