Kusatsu Onsen – Japan’s Top Hot Spring with the Highest Natural Output
- Boasting the largest natural hot spring flow in Japan, Kusatsu Onsen is truly a world-class hot spring. Its symbol, the Yubatake (hot water field), gushes out approximately 4,000 liters of hot water per minute! Enjoy this abundant gift of nature through sightseeing, delicious meals, and local street food.
The Symbol of Kusatsu: Yubatake
- Located in the heart of the hot spring town, the Yubatake produces around 4,000 liters of steaming hot water every minute. Surrounded by stone fences, tiled walkways, and benches shaped like Mt. Shirane, this iconic spot becomes even more magical at night when beautifully illuminated.
Experience the Essence of Kusatsu at “Netsu-no-Yu”
- Just a short walk from Yubatake, “Netsu-no-Yu” is a popular attraction where you can watch the famous Yumomi Show, a traditional performance in which high-temperature hot spring water is stirred with long wooden paddles to cool it down, accompanied by folk songs.
Yumomi & Dance Show Admission (separate fee): Adults ¥700 / Children ¥350 (tax included)
Tickets are sold only at the venue, starting 30 minutes before each show.
Sai-no-Kawara Park
- Once feared as “The Demon’s Spring,” this vast riverside park features lava rocks and naturally steaming hot spring pools scattered across the area. From sunset to 10 PM, the entire park is beautifully lit up, offering a mystical and serene night stroll.
Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Village
- Escape the everyday and immerse yourself in the vast grounds of this resort, where you can enjoy various types of Kusatsu’s famous hot springs. Surrounded by rich natural forest, the hotel also offers forest bathing and a range of amusement facilities. The buffet, featuring seasonal flavors and local ingredients, is highly recommended.
Meals
- Enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet with around 40 Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes—including beef steak, tempura, and sushi—prepared with local ingredients.
Hot Springs
- The large public bath, which uses water sourced from the Yubatake spring, features a variety of options such as hot baths, lukewarm baths, overhead pours, and high-temperature tubs. The open-air bath that follows offers a serene soak where you can feel the changing seasons of Kusatsu.
Activities & Facilities
- In addition to the baths, the resort includes Terume Terume, a relaxation facility with pools and spa amenities. This all-in-one onsen resort lets you enjoy not only hot springs but also a wide range of activities.
