Spring in Kyushu is a colorful season, rivaling the diverse hues of autumn foliage. Flower petals in shades of pink, green, and red peek out from among the verdant leaves, creating an even richer palette than the fall colors. Kokonoe Flower Park is a must-visit destination for those coming to Kyushu in spring. Here, different flowers bloom in four seasons, with their fragrances and colors changing throughout the year.

When discussing spring flowers in Japan, cherry blossoms are an essential topic. Surely no one can resist standing beneath fully bloomed cherry trees to admire this once-a-year spectacle of beauty. At Ukiha Shrine, you can gaze upon the distant Nagarekawa Cherry Blossom Road, where cherry blossoms mingle with golden rapeseed flowers, creating a scene as beautiful as an oil painting.

The Experience

Kokonoe Flower Park

Kokonoe Flower Park, originally a barren land, opened in 1993 after continuous cultivation efforts. The park's main purpose is to provide a place where people can easily connect with nature and create a leisure space for visitors of all ages. When it first opened, the park was only half its current size, and some doubted whether growing flowers here could attract tourists. The result is evident: the flowers not only attract local residents but also many overseas visitors who come to admire the beautiful natural scenery. Today, Kokonoe Flower Park is one of the largest gardens in Western Japan, cultivating over 500 species and 5 million flowers year-round. In Kokonoe Flower Park, different flowers bloom throughout the four seasons, making it a true floral paradise.

Nagarekawa Cherry Blossom Road

Nagarekawa Cherry Blossom Road is located in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. It stretches for about 2 kilometers along the Kose River and boasts approximately 350 Yoshino cherry trees. Every spring, it attracts a large number of visitors to admire the spectacular sight of cherry blossoms in full bloom. Around early April, when the cherry blossoms are at their peak, the intertwining trees form a beautiful pink tunnel, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Even at night, visitors can enjoy the beautiful night cherry blossom scenery.

Ukiha Inari Shrine

Ukiha Inari Shrine is located in Jougahana Park in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. This shrine is dedicated to deities associated with business prosperity, bountiful harvests, longevity, and scholarship. The main deities enshrined at Ukiha Inari Shrine are Inari Okami from Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto, Oyamatsumi no Kami, and Sugawara no Michizane from Dazaifu Tenmangu, attracting many devotees seeking various blessings. Ukiha Inari Shrine is famous for its colorful red torii gates that extend along the hillside, creating a spectacular view. On clear days, visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of Harazuru Onsen and the Amagi area. In spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, it becomes one of Japan's famous cherry blossom viewing spots. Whether you're seeking spiritual solace or enjoying natural beauty, Ukiha Inari Shrine is sure to be a satisfying tourist destination.
