The Experience
At "Kyoto Sumo Club," nestled in Kyoto's historic streetscape, you can experience and watch powerful sumo bouts by former wrestlers (rikishi) up close. This event can be enjoyed by guests of all ages, from children to adults. With live English commentary, you can easily learn about the history, rituals, and rules of sumo, deepening your understanding of Japan's national sport.
While enjoying the show, you can also savor an all-you-can-eat traditional Japanese meal, including chanko-nabe (chicken broth hot pot) supervised by a sumo wrestler.
The show opens with an elegant performance of traditional Geisha Dance, offering a vibrant cultural experience. You can also enjoy Tora-Tora, a traditional Japanese parlor game. Tora-Tora is a rock-paper-scissors-like game where victory is determined by "three ways," and it's a participatory recreation where you compete using body gestures, popular among geiko and maiko since the Meiji era.
To conclude the experience, a "Sumo Challenge" is available. This is a precious opportunity to step onto the dohyo (sumo ring) and face a sumo wrestler, which is sure to become an unforgettable memory of your trip.
