The Experience
Asahidake Ropeway & Hiking Board the ropeway for a scenic 10-minute "aerial walk" to Sugatami Station at an altitude of 1,600 meters. Below you, a vibrant tapestry of autumn colors stretches as far as the eye can see. Upon arrival, embark on a breathtaking hike along a 1.7km loop trail (approx. 1 hour). This path offers the best of untamed nature: delicate alpine flora like Chinguruma (Aleutian avens), the iconic Sugatami Pond—which reflects Mt. Asahidake like a mirror on calm days—and the chance to spot rare local wildlife, such as the adorable Ezo Pika (northern pika).
Lunch at "Sugatami Shokudo" Enjoy a hearty "Higashikawa Chunky Vegetable Stewed Hamburger Steak" made with the freshest local produce. - Cancellation & Route Changes Weather Cancellation: The tour will be cancelled at departure if the Asahidake Ropeway is suspended due to strong winds or if the highway is closed, as we cannot guarantee sufficient sightseeing time.
In-Route Changes: If the ropeway is suspended after the tour has already departed, the itinerary will change to visit Shikisai-no-Oka and Farm Tomita. In this case, the ropeway fee will be refunded upon arrival back in Sapporo.
- Preparation & Gear Footwear: While the trail to Sugatami Pond is maintained, please wear comfortable walking shoes and appropriate outdoor clothing. Trails can be slippery; please watch your step.
Cold Weather: From late September onwards, snow may be present at the summit. We strongly recommend bringing warm clothing to stay comfortable.
