★ What is the Tsuruga Lantern Floating & Grand Fireworks Festival? ★ Held in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture, this event is a stunning summer tradition set against the scenic backdrop of Kehi-no-Matsubara pine grove. As night falls, the ocean is vividly colored by thousands of floating lanterns, while a massive fireworks display bursts overhead. It is a grand spectacle where the sea and sky unite in a brilliant symphony of light and sound.
★ The Magical & Sacred World of "Lantern Floating" (To-ro Nagashi) ★ Lantern floating is a deeply moving Japanese tradition where paper lanterns lit with candles are released into rivers or the sea to guide and honor the souls of deceased ancestors. It was traditionally believed that ancestral spirits ride these lanterns across the ocean to return to the spirit world. The warm, flickering lights illuminating the dark waters create an incredibly mystical and serene atmosphere.
Note: If you wish to float your own lantern, they are available for purchase on-site for approximately ¥1,000 (based on last year's price). You can gently release your lantern into the sea directly from the sandy beach.
★ Feast on Fresh Seafood at "Nihonkai Sakana Machi" ★ Before the festival, the tour will stop at the largest seafood market on the Sea of Japan coast! This bustling market features over 60 vibrant shops run by local Tsuruga fisheries, offering fresh catches, seafood rice bowls (Kaisen-don), sushi, and local souvenirs.
Special Bonus: This tour includes a ¥1,500 dining and shopping voucher that you can use at any shop inside the market! Enjoy a delicious lunch and shop for unique local treats before heading to the festival grounds.
