<Jigokudani Monkey Park> Jigokudani Monkey Park is a facility where you can observe monkeys in a very natural setting. There are no fences separating humans and monkeys, allowing visitors to freely observe them in the same space.
Located at an 850m height, snow accumulates in winter and temperatures drop below -10 degrees Celsius. To survive this severe natural environment, Japanese macaques developed the wisdom to soak in hot springs to ward off the cold.
Then in 1970, when a photograph of monkeys bathing in hot springs appeared on the cover of the American magazine LIFE, tourists from around the world began flocking to see the snow monkeys.
<Notes>
- The Japanese macaques at Jigokudani Monkey Park are wild animals. Even in winter, they often do not bathe in the hot springs when it is warm. Please be aware that you may not always see monkeys bathing in the hot springs.

- Do not touch or scare monkeys.
- Do not stare into a monkey's eyes from close range.
- Observe from a distance without getting too close.

- Photography with cameras, video cameras, etc., is permitted. Using flash is also acceptable.
- Specialized shooting methods such as bringing cameras into the bath, using drones, or employing selfie sticks are prohibited.
- When taking photos, please maintain a distance and avoid bringing cameras, smartphones, etc., too close to the monkeys.
<About Clothing and Footwear>
- From the bus parking lot to the park entrance, it's about a 40-minute walk one way along a gentle mountain path (approximately 2 km).
- Frozen areas are extremely slippery, so please wear winter boots such as rubber boots or snow boots, or carry simple crampons.
- Due to the busy season, you may need to wait in line to enter the park (no priority entry).
- Please prepare warm clothing and gear.
- Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear.
