An authentic Kiyomizu-yaki pottery-making experience where you can learn directly from a government-certified traditional craftsman and enjoy the freedom of creating your own piece.
This program offers a special, hands-on experience where you can learn "Kiyomizu-yaki" (Kiyomizu ware)—one of Kyoto’s most iconic traditional crafts—directly from a government-certified master craftsman.
Unlike typical tourist workshops that run on an assembly-line basis, this experience is strictly limited to a small group of up to 5 participants. We highly value providing personalized, attentive guidance tailored to each individual. With a highly experienced master craftsman always by your side to support you, even absolute beginners can relax and enjoy an authentic pottery-making experience.
Additionally, you will start your experience right from a crucial step called "Tsuchikoroshi" (centering the clay)—a process that, in many other pottery classes, is pre-prepared by the staff. In this step, you will center the clay, remove air pockets, and ensure its texture is perfectly uniform. Far from being just a preparation step, it is the very foundation and essence of pottery.
Your finished piece will be carefully fired in the actual kiln used at the workshop. Delivered to you not just as a simple souvenir, but as an authentic piece of Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu-yaki artwork.
