설명

【The Story of Oyakuen】The history of Oyakuen dates back to the 1430s during the Muromachi period, when the ruler of Aizu, Morihisa Ashina, built a villa on this site blessed with natural spring water. Later in 1670, the second lord of the Aizu clan, Masatsune Hoshina, established a medicinal herb garden to save his people from epidemics, which led to the name "Oyakuen" (literally "Imperial Herb Garden"). Remarkably, during the fierce Boshin War of 1868, the garden escaped destruction because it was used as a sanatorium for the imperial government forces, preserving the authentic samurai-era landscape for today's visitors.【Itinerary & Highlights】Stroll Around Shinji-ike Pond: Walk along the pathways surrounding the pond, which is designed in the shape of the Chinese character for "heart" (心), and appreciate the changing views, stone arrangements, and seasonal foliage. Explore the Medicinal Herb Garden: Walk through the botanical area where about 400 species of medicinal plants are still grown, and learn about the natural remedies cultivated by the Aizu clan.Rakujutei Pavilion: Admire the thatched-roof sukiya-style teahouse standing on the pond's central island, a symbol of wabi-sabi aesthetics.Ochaya Goten Pavilion (Tea Sitting Area): Visit the historic wooden villa once used by lords for relaxation and secret meetings. Enjoy a serene moment of tea appreciation.
