Located in Kaiyo, in the southern-most part of Tokushima prefecture, Hi-COLOR handworks uses the beautifully clean water of the Kaifu River for both everyday purposes and aizome indigo dyeing. The Kaifu River is one of 36 rivers in Japan known for its beauty and water quality.
The Experience
Lodging Limited To One Group Per Day We limit our guesthouse experience to one group per day, in order to ensure our attentiveness – both in conversation and in our dyeing experience. Groups of up to six can sleep in our guest quarters. For groups larger than 6, please consult with us.
Dinner We offer homemade meals made up of bountiful seasonal ingredients simmered, tempura-fried, or stewed, as well as fresh, locally caught sashimi-style seafood.
Breakfast Our breakfast offerings feature rice cultivated in the renowned waters of the Kaifu river, as well as dried fish and miso soup all carefully prepared in nearby Kaiyo.
Indigo, Mud, and Shishikui Gion Shrine Dyeing Experiences You can experience the joy and complexity of using natural dyes! There are many things to learn about indigo dye, even for people with experience. We can also explain how all our natural dyes are made, as well as other things that can’t be conveyed via our website or in our product descriptions – things like water management and how wastewater can be good for the environment.
