Kure Maritime Museum (Yamato Museum) Reopen on Thursday, April 23, 2026! The Kure Maritime Museum was opened in 2005. Its many exhibits showcase Kure’s history, in particular the advancements in military shipbuilding and steelmaking that were the foundation of the city’s development and representative of the country’s modernization during the Meiji era (1868–1912).
JMSDF Kure Museum (Iron Whale Museum) The aim of the museum is to educate Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) personnel and promote understanding by the public of JMSDF through extensive PR activities by exhibiting and preserving materials owned by JMSDF as well as contribute to coexistence with the region.
Kawajiri Brush Making Museum In addition to materials related to brushes and brush-making in Kawajiri-cho, Kure City, which have been designated as "national traditional crafts," the museum also exhibits the tools and materials used in brush-making, allowing visitors to learn about the entire manufacturing process. Many works by contemporary calligraphers are also on display. Adjacent to the Noro Kogen Lodge, the museum also has a training room (fees apply) that can be used as a large meeting room.
Mitarai Area The Hill Overlooking History Park boasts a spectacular 360-degree view of the Seto Inland Sea. Located in Mitarai in Kure City on Osaki Shimojima Island, one of the seven islands connected by the Tobishima Kaido bridges, the park stands on a hill where you can gaze across the islands dotting the sea.
