Explore the last traces of the ancient Tokaido and follow in the footsteps of the samurai.
For four centuries, the Tokaido connects Japan's modern capital, Tokyo, with its ancient capital, Kyoto.
During the feudal era, most travelers on the Tokaido traveled on foot, and horses and palanquins were luxuries for the upper class.
A section of the old Tokaido trail known as Hakone Hachiri (only one hour from Tokyo) was recently designated a Japan Heritage Area.
The Japanese word "hachi" means eight, and "ri" is a unit of distance equivalent to about 4km so that Hakone Hachiri is the 32km section of the old Tokaido that passes through Hakone between Odawara and Mishima.
The Hakone Hachiri Hiking Tour allows you to walk the old Hakone Hachiri trail through ancient cedar trees. Walk approximately 12 kilometers on this guided small-group day.

- Please note that as the tour starts from Odawara Station, and concludes at Mishima Station, the Shinkansen fares from/to Tokyo are additional to above pricing and at your own arrangement, although can be covered by a valid JR Pass.
- Ability to comfortably walk at least 14km (9 miles), sometimes over steep terrain, ie. Intermediate fitness level.
- Not suitable for kids.

- Hike Hakone Hachiri will exercise all reasonable care to ensure safety of tour participants, however participants are advised to also arrange their own private travel insurance.
- Tour can be cancelled without notice due adverse weather or similar reasons.
- Please follow safety instructions and announcements on public trains & buses used during the tour, as interpreted by your Hike Hakone Hachiri guide.
